Scandal
Are you scandalised by the real Jesus?
The Greek word for scandal is scandalon and means trip or causing to fall
"How on earth could I be so scandalised by Jesus?" you ask:
The snare or cause of tripping is so serious that in Mt 5:29 Jesus speaking to Jews about entry to the coming 1000 year kingdom here on earth said: "If your right hand offend you cut it off" Drastic action indeed: This tripping must be serious: Today that would translate for us as follows: We are not Jews: We are not destined for an earthly kingdom: We are in expectation of being raptured to a heanenly destiny: So " If your right eye offend you take swift action and leap into the spirit: Flee immorality by letting the spirit take control: The message is literally the same but the action to be taken differs:The law for us can not deal with these sins:"If you by the spirit put to death the deeds of the flesh you shall live"`
If you are sitting down in the evening wartching a soap and 2 men start kissing .. take drastic action: Flee:If your right hand wants to sign that tax document but you have no peace about your answer to question 5 .. take action: Fast!
Matt 16: 23 when Jesus was telling about his coming capture and death peter spoke up and said "Far be it from you Lord: But Jesus rebuked him saying "Get behind me Satan: You are a snare to me"
Peters talk would trip Jesus up from doing what He came to do and what the father wanted: It was Satan who put that thought into Peters mind:
in Matt 13:21 we re told that some seed fell on rocky soil and at the coming of affliction withered:was tripped: A big smile from joel osteen may not be of aassistance when a sick child dies in the night and may even be a cause of tripping you up and rejecting God: But phil 1:29 forewarns us that the gracious free gft of God-faith is accompanied in the same package by suffering: Its sound teaching on the whole belt of truth that protects us from bing scandalised or tripped:If our husband or wife of 25 years leaves you then wrong teachings can trip you up: God on the other hand helps you continue to love and pray and expect:
I remember when God first began to open scripture to me i an amazing and frightening way: I would wlk the floor in our Ballina home in the early morning and consider the implications of what He was saying to me: I remember thinking "but if that is true i will be left with no friends as they will all consider me apostate or a heretic" 2If this si strue then why do the mainstream preachers ans teachers not tell us?"
